The Anatomy of Colour The Story of Heritage Paints and Pigments Patrick Baty

One of my favourite ways to think creatively about new colour combinations is to explore paint interior books. Anatomy of Colour by Patrick Baty is one of those books. It's a fascinating exploration of colour history spanning 300 years (1660s-1960s) that has become a wellspring of inspiration for Lovaan collections.

Baty's narrative takes you on a journey through the evolution of colours, offering insights into the stories behind pigments and dyes. What sets this book apart is its practical application. Baty doesn't just share historical anecdotes; he provides useful insights on how to integrate this knowledge into creative endeavours.

In the late 19th and early 20th centuries, they used to create small palettes inspired by an era, a place or an idea and offer complimentary hues that could be used to decorate interiors. We apply a similar method when we build our collections, taking inspiration from bygone-era architecture, nature and interiors to curate colour harmonies.

For those seeking a contemplative exploration of colours, Baty's definitive guide is a worthwhile addition to the bookshelf.
