Measuring our progress on this Earth Day

So much can happen within a year, and as we look back on the past 12 months, we find ourselves immersed in nostalgia, recognising this as a chance to reflect on our growth as a brand. Sustainability is complex and ever-evolving, and while we’ve made meaningful strides, we know there’s still much to learn.

Over the past year, Lovaan has grown tremendously — planting seeds, sprouting new ideas, and blooming into who we are today. We’ve embraced the reality that responsibility isn’t a destination but an ongoing journey that evolves with us.

Here’s what we’ve achieved so far:

  • Established Our Responsibility Framework: We’ve developed key pillars and a FY24/25 Roadmap, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to guide our strategy.

y.

  • Launched Lovaan Rental: In partnership with RNTR, we’re promoting circular fashion and making our garments more accessible.

y.

  • Implemented a Supplier Code of Conduct: Aligned with the ETI Base Code and ILO conventions, with all CMT suppliers signing and adhering to this policy.

y.

  • Collated Supplier Social Accreditation: Compiled relevant social audits from our CMT suppliers, who are certified against the SEDEX SMETA Audit Methodology.

y.

  • Addressed Our Waste Strategy: Produced scrunchies and ribbons from offcuts and deadstock fabrics, with plans to expand this initiative.

y.

  • Tracked Fibre Usage: Backdated data across all collections to guide a fibre transition strategy.

y.

  • Reviewed Packaging: Conducted a packaging audit and team education session to streamline materials and meet the 2025 Australian National Packaging Targets.

y.

  • Locally Made: Launched our first locally made in Melbourne denim skirt made from deadstock organic cotton.

We’ve realised that responsibility is not something we can mould or force in a particular direction. We face limitations on how quickly we can complete projects, such as a lack of time, resources, and access to materials due to minimum order restrictions.

However, we are committed to working with integrity and transparency, addressing challenges like unresolved corrective action plans from our suppliers and ensuring we stay aligned with industry standards. We celebrate the progress we’ve made while acknowledging that the road ahead will require patience and persistence.

Going forward, we remain dedicated to learning and evolving, understanding that with each challenge comes an opportunity to grow and become a future-proof, resilient fashion brand.
